Why Mathematics?

At first, I wanted to get an Associates Degree in Computer Science. However, trying to get an Associates Degree while fulfilling the requirements for transfer is not as easy as I had thought before. My interest in mathematics brought me to take a math course during summer 2005, instead of a Computer Science course. That decision has brought me to fulfill the General Education requirements for Mathematics, instead of Computer Science. Knowing this fact, I decided to get an Associates Degree in Mathematics.

Mathematics is one of the subjects that are generally used. Mathematics is applied everyday in our lives, and everybody must know mathematics (for the least, to count our own money). Some people use basic mathematics such as addition, extraction multiplication, and division for their lives. Some other, use more complex mathematical functions such as powers, series, derivatives, integrals, and even multivariable derivatives and multivariable integrals.
Not only used in science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology, mathematics is also used in business, accounting, economics, and music. Knowing how important mathematics is in our live, I decided to focus more in this amazing subject and to focus my ePortfolio in this subject.

I will talk a little bit about basic mathematical functions in this ePortfolio. However, the main focus will be on the higher division college-level mathematics, starting from Calculus, Elementary Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra.

Why "Beyond Infinity"?

This ePortfolio will be focusing, basically, on mathematics; starting from basic mathematics, up to advanced mathematics (College-level Mathematics). In basic mathematics, we learn about finite numbers, and things that are easily applied in real life. As we get into Calculus, however, we start to analysis some function as it goes to infinity (meaning that the function goes so large, that we cannot get an exact number other than estimation), or as it goes to zero (meaning that the function goes to an infinitely small number, that, again, we cannot do anything except for estimating). Even though estimations seem abstract, it is extremely amazing, how accurate the estimations are.
In "Beyond Infinity", I will not only share my knowledge and interest in finite and infinite mathematics, but also relate it to some other real life applications. Hence, "to infinity, and beyond", we will search the wonder of this subject.
